I've noticed two trends that emerge on my blog.

Either I'm posting debates with someone with regards to Black Sabbath, or I'm posting Thin Lizzy videos and links. I much prefer the latter. This is why I respect the Thin Lizzy fans, Thin Lizzy had tons of lineup changes, and even toured without Phil Lynott. I know tons of people that don't like the "reformed" Thin Lizzy, but at least theirs an element of respect to what they do. I find it appalling that REAL lineups of Black Sabbath, successful and legitmate lineups even, don't get that respect. The double standard blows my mind.

Recently a YouTuber and member of the Black Sabbath fan forums named "thesithempire", decided to engage (or maybe enrage) me in a "debate" about the sanctity and legitmacy of the Black Sabbath name, particular when it involves lineups not including the original 4 members. I could get into the history of Black Sabbath, but that would be long and boring. Sabbath, like Lizzy, and like many other bands, have had tons of lineup changes, but kept the name and kept making new music. Maybe the music wasn't always the exact same style, but it was certainly a quality product, at least in my eyes.

Unlike some of my infamous YouTube debates with people. "Thesithempire" is actually a relatively good speaker, seems well informed, can use the english language, and is probably a decent guy. Yet, after this debate ended (I had to end it because he just got too annoying as you'll see in a minute) I came across feeling the same way I always feel after I have to ban someone from my account...like the fucker must be out of his mind. You're probably thinking how the hell can that be, especially since I actually praised his intellect before even bringing it up. Well, I'm going to post the convo. I'm interested in what you Sabbath fans have to say. Some may even agree with Sith's points, and that's fair. I personally even respect his opinion, but well...he got a little carried away...and I'll explain why I feel this way.

Mr. Sith started off with a reply to a comment I made months ago to another user saying that Black Sabbath didn't end in 1978 with the firing/leaving of Ozzy Osbourne. This is a fact. You might hate it but it's still a fact. It happened. His reply:

Well there's what you believe, and there's the truth. Truth is, Black Sabbath existed in other entities besides the first one. I don't consider it any more unique or sacrosanct than any of the others, just different. Besides, listen to an interview from 1974, 1980, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1992, 1997, 2007, etc. Members have said different things depending on who they are nice with at the time. I don't think one interview or opinion truely clarifies anyone's position.

And for the 24930th time, I'm just asking why the double standard. No one has ever answered this question. Ever. No other bands that had lineup changes get debated as much as Sabbath as to whether output from certain lineups is more credible than another. This might come as a shock, but I don't feel Sabbath is in an way superior to other bands, that they merit an exception to this rule. I like Sabbath a lot, but I'm not some uber-fanboi that judges them by different rules than any other band. 1 day ago

There are many original Van Halen fans who disagree with the band carrying on under than name with another singer. A number of original AC/DC fans feel that way as well. So too Genesis fans, Moody Blues fans, etc., For many people, the original lineups of their favorite bands are special, in fact, sacrosanct. Personally, I love the later albums with Dio, Gillan and Hughes, but they're different bands, and deserve a different name to distinguish those significant differences. 1 day ago

And there's a lot of people who don't believe that with other bands. Even if people have a favorite lineup of bands such as Maiden, AC/DC, Van Halen, Purple, etc., there at least seems to be acceptance of the other lineups. Any hatred of certain lineups don't touch the people who continuely deny certain lineups of Sabbath...it's like some pathological need for people like you to stress over and over that the only legitmate lineup included Ozzy.

It's not about the legitimacy of a band. Of course, Iommi would move on with other musicians. It's about the sanctity of a name and what that name designates. Bands are not sports teams. They represent the musicians in the band, and if a significant change occurs and a band member departs contentiously (as opposed to his own will), then the name should change to reflect that. Would I want Iommi to carry on as Heaven and Hell with another singer if something happened to Dio? No.

Who the hell are you to decide the sanctity. Shouldn't that be up to the guy who, I don't know, LEGALLY OWNS THE NAME??? The only band member that MIGHT of left with any contention was Bill Ward. Ozzy got fired/left...but then signed his rights away. That's not the actions of a man who's contentious about leaving. In fairness to Ozzy, he has a very different story about that. (In fact, even Tony has a very different story to the one that most people have read about.) The truth of this whole split-up is not out there, but one thing is certain. Ozzy's firing was extremely contentious.

Iommi sought to change the name after Dio was fired, but management wouldn't hear of it -- which means that the Sabbath name on the later covers was not his wish or his design. Well if Iommi truly cared, he would of packed it in. For every quote you provide from the Reunion era when it was all good vibes among the original members, I can provide no less than 3 when Iommi quoted excitement/hope for a particular lineup of Sabbath. It's all to be taken in context. Ozzy and Ward have their biases, but I know there's been times when Geezer was quite enthuastic about Dio being in Sabbath, and Iommi (along with Cozy Powell) harped the Headless Cross era.
Lastly, why the fuck are you even arguing with me about this? It's not like I denied that I liked the original lineup the best. I actually do. That said, I'm not changing my mind, and I don't agree with your opinion. Seems pointless. It would be one thing if I was blatantly lying about some historical facts, but I'm not. That's where I have a problem. I post these things because I enjoy sharing my music collection. I'd rather have people comment on the actual video, than rehashing pointless debates about nothing that will be settled. Also, I'm not going around on other Sabbath videos forcing my opinion down on others, yet you and others seem to show up on mine and start these "discussions". I'm not interested in a "discussion" about what is/isn't Sabbath. ITS OFF TOPIC.

Black Sabbath didn't end in 1979. That's a fact. It's that simple. I have a history degree and I teach it, and I'm interested in facts. It doesn't matter how much value one lineup, or if something was lost/gained etc. Black Sabbath as a band, didn't stop making music in 1979. I get your viewpoint, but your viewpoints ARE NOT FACTS. Stop confusing the two.

Hi everyone.

Recently, RL has decided to release the famous Phil Lynott solo gig, 'Omagh 1982' to the public.

That said, demanding that everyone thank them for it is a bit silly. They had the gig for nearly 6 years (at least) and didn't bother to do anything with it until now. Why now? Scroll down my blog and put 2 & 2 together.

Again, the real thanks go to the person who was able to get this from Phil Lynott to begin with, which is something RL has never even mentioned...

Now to the show itself...it' a great SBD audio. The copy that RL has been giving out has gaps between all the songs AND is lossy. They assumed it wasn't based on the original notes I received with it, but upon further review, it's definitely lossy. However, the quality alone is superb, and well worth the download.

I took it upon myself to also open up all the files, remove the annoying gaps, and reconvert to new flac files, all aligned on sector boundaries. It's definitely an improvement, and should be the definitive version until a lossless version appears.

While RL is busy doing damage control (or touting themselves as heroes, depending upon your POV), I'm going to thank the REAL person responsible for "In the Delta" coming to light. I'm sort of disgusted at watching RL try to claim this as their doing. It's not like the track was discovered by them. Someone had it first. Hopefully I'll get to meet him personally and have a bit of a chat. Maybe someone who knows him can point him in my direction...

The "Circle of Fools" has done it again!

Hi everyone.

The Thin Lizzy supporters that frequent this blog have already read about my past experiences with Thin Lizzy fan site "Rock Legend". Yeah, I don't like them and they don't like me. Fine. I must share this latest run-in with them though, to share with you some news, and to share with you THE TRUTH.

The big news is that the ultimate holy grail track "In the Delta" is now on YouTube.

It was posted there by "Father Jack". People that "know", know who he is. From time to time, him and others in the RL crew like to throw gold coins to us "less forunate" Thin Lizzy supporters. They claim to find all this rare stuff, and make it available ASAP to everyone. They claim they want to share other rare tracks but can't because you need rare tracks to trade for other rare tracks not in their possession. This logic makes perfectly good sense.

However, this is NOT what RL does. "In the Delta" is proof of that. I've said it for a couple years now, and this time I have indisputable proof of their TRUE motives.

The reason "In the Delta" is up on YouTube now? IT's simply because I doubted they had it, and they wanted to "prove me wrong". How dumb is that? Well, not as dumb as what you're going to read here below.

This started about a week ago. Another YouTube user, completely out of the blue, emailed me the lyrics to "In the Delta". He said he had owned it for years and it was a rare trade-only item. He insinuated that I might be able to contact the person who had another rare track and set up a trade. I said I wasn't interested though, but kept the correspondence.

Then I decided, as a complete joke, to email RL saying I had the track. This is shit that happens quite often. Am I a jerk, maybe...but I'm also one that likes to have a little fun now and then. I contacted the webmaster of Rock Legend, knowing full well he would tell anyone within earshot...but not expecting anything major to happen. Here is the actual correspondence:

It is a very interesting track. Although I'm not sure how YOU know it's interesting...It is my understanding that I'm exactly the 7th person to have a copy. That's what person #6 told me. If my calculations are correct, there's no way you or anyone else you personally talk to on a regular basis has a copy of it. That would make the number much higher than 7. So, someone's not telling the truth...
But that said, yes I will enjoy it. And it's not completely out of the question that it could turn up on YouTube. But I have some other people I need to talk to a bit first, some more shopping around to do, you know how it is.

So I know you will make your own mind up on this but just think about ityou may have a key part to play in helping to get the last few of the losttracks unearthed and contrary to your thoughts I know that the people Ihave contact with have always wanted to share all the tracts once they hadmanaged to release the tracks which are held by others.

Nah, I'm sure my information is correct. Here's why:No one from RL is going to give me the time of day, except for maybe you, if I had a question about any unreleased material. I've known this for a long time, and when I was booted from the forums (and I was booted) I didn't look back.
The guy I got the track from was the long time owner. He knows exactly who has the track. I know copies have been VERY LIMITED, for the exact reasons you mentioned. If someone from RL had it, I wouldn't of wasted my time gloating to you about it. In fact, I would of posted it already, probably just to stick it to them even more. Also, no one from RL is going to come to me, out of the blue, and just say, "Hey, Ryan, you want a copy of this track..." Get real Jim. I know you guys have been looking for it for a long, long time. Hell, I know when the whole Unfinished Sympathy business came about, no one at RL had even heard of "In the Delta". I know you're bluffing, and I know you're trying to not make a big deal about it because you don't want to "overplay" your hand. Hell, it's probably the closest you guys are going to get to acquiring that track.

Another reason I know you don't have it, is that it would of appeared as at least a snippet in what "nothinbutblue" posted on YouTube. I know his identity too. I know where those tracks are coming from, and I know why some appear as snippets. C'mon Jim, if you really had the track, you would of said as much in the very first message and probably not bothered replying to me. But you guys won't let it go until you either get some information from me on how to acquire it, or convince me to cough it up...neither which are going to happen.

And even if you do have it, I could totally piss up any effort you guys have of acquiring other rare tracks. If that is what you're doing...you'd think after 20 years you'd have gotten somewhere with that by now.
I might be young, but I've played a lot of Poker in my time. I'm damn near unbeatable at that game. This is the same exact thing in my eyes.

Amazing what a set of lyrics and a reputation can do for you. You should of stuck to your guns at the beginning and assumed I didn't have it. I knew either way, whether you had the track or not, that I could get some type of reaction out of you. However, this is totally beyond even my expectations.
Now I have to ask...do you have any more rare tracks that you're saving to "get back at people"? I mean, you claim that you need to be saving them to trade for other rarities, but on a whim you can just post them to supposedly get back at me for claiming you didn't have it? If anything, all you've done is make people question your motives. Are you really saving them for the whole "rarities for rarities" excuse, or using them as golden nuggets to dole out on any given whim to make it seem like you're bigshots? Right now it looks a lot more like the latter. Not that I care HOW you guys look to a casual observer, but YOU might.

That last paragraph in my last message to them says it all. And the rest of it is the reason "In the Delta" is on YouTube. They've had this track and other tracks in their back pockets for years. Perhaps at one time they were trying to trade them for rare tracks, but that time has long passed. The holders of the few tracks they don't have want nothing to do with them. So, yes they could share them, but they don't. They save them for special occasions...like this. They wanted to beat me to the bank, because they were worried I might get other rare tracks, or post the track on YouTube myself. Well, thinking they were gonna get me good...they posted it themselves. Thanks guys.

But don't let them tell you they are doing it because they are generous, or they are doing it because they wanted to share it. If I didn't press them, it never would of turned up. They are doing it because they THINK they got me good...oh no, no, no.

Can't wait to see how they will spin this. They are going to need to do some damage control.

Hi everyone.

Just got done posting a torrent. It took 2 hrs. It shouldn't take 2 hrs, especially since I had it prepared last night. Leave it to DIME to fuck things up and leave me pissed off.

I attempted to post a lossless version of "Snowed in Cork". It contains some soundcheck tracks from both Cork and Hammersmith, as well as the first 5 tracks from the gig at Cork on 13 April 1980. Shortly after I posted it, it was banned because of track number 10.

Track 10 is "Don't Play Around" (Soundcheck from 29 May 1980 @ Hammersmith)

I looked at the link they gave me, and all it said was that it was officially released as the B-Side of the Killer on the Loose single. I knew that's bullshit. That was a studio release. So I emailed them for an explanation. This is what I got:

Well, it wasn't. The B-Side for that single was the Studio version of "Don't Play Around", not what I posted.

The released studio version of "Don't Play Around" was recorded at the Hammersmith soundcheck in 1980 and was reworked in the studio so its to iffy to run here.

Reworked? They aren't even close to the same thing! Likewise, that information isn't even listed on the link provided and I'd like to see some proof of that before you start banning torrents.

If you have the Swedish 2CD release of "The Boys Are Back In Town" from from 2001 on Vertigo 548483-2,please read the sleeve notes written by Jörgen Holmstedt in the inner tray. Thats sufficient information for us to call this particular track off limits on DIME.

I think that's being way too picky. But whatever. When I put it up without that track, I'll expect you to show up and explain to everyone else why that track isn't there.

No its not whatever, its one of the reason why DIME still exists. We were forced to close down twice in not too distant past. On both occasions, it was because of one track in one torrent. That's all it takes. Sorry but we are not willing to put DIME in risk simply because you don't like the way it affects your uploading.

Because it was "probably recorded". Wow, that's convincing evidence that obviously didn't come from listening to the two songs...

Well if I am not slightly mistaken the same thing is even mentioned in "The Rocker" by Mark Putterford,so if you know more than the journalists Holmstedt and Putterford who both had followed the band very close,well good on you.
"Probably recorded" makes this a conflict with an official release and then the track is off limits on DIME until evidence can be provided to prove otherwise.

I just got out my copy of the Rocker, it doesn't say anything of the sort. It talks about a live version of "Chinatown" being recorded for a b-side at one of the hammersmith gigs, but not anything about "Don't Play Around" being reworked or used for any singles. In theory, then why should any demos be allowed here? Those songs end up 'reworked' and on official releases...seems like the same thing to me.
I know you've had "legal issues" twice, but there's a difference between caution and sheer paranoia.

I figured I had pushed my luck enough at this point. I don't agree with their logic. A reworked track is something different. I wouldn't have a problem with any of this if they were halfway respectful. But they aren't. They are more worried about legal issues than trying to deal with any of the people that use DIME. If someone asks a question which may be answered in the FAQ page (despite the fact they have shit all over the place in there and it's hard to navigate as it is), they get all condescending and come down on them like the jerks they are. The thing thats always intrigued me is that the officially released "Live in Sweden" disc contains the supposed Avesta show (SBD) as a bonus disc, yet from simply listening to this and that disc, the shows aren't the same. I'm fairly certain that this is Avesta...so I wonder what that bonus disc really is.

This Avesta recording is NOT the same show as the bonus disc "Live In Sweden" and not in conflict with the Zoom release. I own the Avesta silver discs as well as the Zoom release.

From what I remember the Zoom release is from

1983-08-05 Brunnsparken,Örebro,Sweden

and is not in conflict with any of the 3 musketeers recordings which is in circulation in trading circles

There is a major difference,I speak on behalf of DIME.

Several users have reported this torrent as wikipedia says the official release on Zoom has material from Avesta. If there is a conflict between this torrent and and an official release this torrent would not be allowed shared here as it could cause DIME legal problems. As the moderators see it there is no problem with this torrent running here as either is this torrent wrongly dated or wikipedia/Zoom Records have got the date for the recording on the bonus disc wrong.

And by the way, that's posted in the comments section and is public. I didn't have to go through my email to dig those out.

See my point. It would be fine if they just would concur, because the reason I made my first post was to show to others that it wasn't the same thing as the supposed official release. But, he not only ignores my post and copies the exact same information, he then goes on to say about how his expertise in Lizzy supercedes mine because he's a moderator and he speaks on "behalf of Dime". Whoopie shit. There's easier ways to agree with someone than belitting someone else's knowledge and touting your credentials.

Secondly, I would think posting a show that claims to be from a date that already has an official release would be something that could cause a legal issue. Granted we know they both aren't the same, but it's not like any lawyer or music label is going to know this. So, it seems like you're taking a risk by letting it remain on the tracker. That's fine and good, and I don't even disagree, it should be on the tracker because it's not the same show. I'm just saying it might lead to confusion, and could lead to legal trouble from those who aren't as informed about such matters. Yet, you seem to be willing to risk it in this case, but not for my case. It almost is like you just seem to pick battles how you see fit, and not whether they make sense or not. The track I posted as a different guitar solo and runs significantly longer than the official release. It's not even remotely close to being the same. Reworked to me means it's way different and should be allowed. Hell, it's more different than a lot of demos that get reworked...but yet those aren't banned. It almost seems like they enjoy picking on me when I upload stuff and overly scrutinzing it just because they don't like me making examples of them to the general public, and pointing out their mistakes and contradictions.

And yes, YOU DO MAKE THEM. Just because you're running DIME doesn't mean you're infallible.

It's that attitude above, and their resistance to apologize and correct mistakes that makes me post private email from them in a blog.

ThinLizzyFanpage requested that I post the soundcheck from the 3/12/1983 Hammersmith Odeon gig. I initially said it would take a few days, but I found it on my hard drive and just decided to do it now, while I answered some idiotic comments on a few of my YouTube posts regarding California Jam, Nuremberg 1983, and Sabbath's performance of Smoke on the Water.

I got this from a friend of mine as .mp3 files. I don't know the exact bitrate but the files sound ok. I know people have this in lossless, so if you see this and have it in lossless, it would be appreciated if it could be posted someplace like DIME/DaD or at the Traders Den in that format. That way I could junk this link, and post something in better quality.

This includes 4 versions of Black Rose, 2 of Still In Love With You, Whiskey, The Rocker, Are You Ready, and a couple of jams. It used to have two more tracks but something happened to the CD I had this stored on awhile back and it damaged two tracks so they they were unplayable. This should really be 14 tracks but instead you're only getting 12. Another good reason someone should take the time and post this.

What is here is really good though. It's neat to hear some of the riffs played on their own.

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to put in my two cents on a situation involving a YouTube aquaintance of mine who goes by the user name "nothinbutblue".

If you're a big Lizzy/Lynott fan, and if you already have been reading my blog, you probably have some recollection of who he is. This user shared a few dozen EXTREMELY RARE Lizzy and Lynott tracks the last few months, including nearly all of the 1984/85 demos known to exist. Some were only snippets, (and I understand why that is) but even still, his efforts to make these tracks available to be heard by the public is very commendable. It's sad to think that some people (assholes) refuse to share these tracks because either:

A) These assholes are making money from them...or

B) These assholes are holding out (in vain) to get complete versions of certain other tracks from other equally idiotic assholes that 99.999% of all Lizzy collectors don't have yet. (Do you get why some of those were only snippets now?)

Of course, after about a month or so, a few certain people caught wind of what 'nothinbutblue' had done and decided to use the same tactics that once been used on me and successfully got him to remove all the tracks from YouTube.

I need to make a few points about this.

First off, I had spoken to 'nothinbutblue' before he posted anything on his channel. I'm not going to divulge what exactly was said as it's not right for me to just publish the contents of that message (although I have no problem doing so on my end), but I will say that he praised what I had done in posting other rare tracks and said that it was 'the right thing to do'. I feel the public needs to know this, and that 'nothinbutblue' isn't just jerking people around because he can. He just understands (as do I) the other factors you have to deal with when you post rare stuff on the internet. He took the tracks off YouTube because he felt it was the right thing for him to do. Understandable. I felt the right thing to do was to leave them up and weather the storm, risk alienation from 'the big boys' and become a pariah among other collectors of this material. Fine.

'nothinbutblue' did upload a new track late last night, and when asked about the other tracks, suggested that he would post material that would cause "less consternation". What?!

Basically, I understand the decision, but I don't agree with this mentality.

First, if it's the right thing to do (his words), then why is it okay to quit when a few people give you crap?

Also, with regards to these people who are causing consternation, do they really think people didn't make copies of the tracks from YouTube? I mean it's too late once they are up there. I can make a copy of any track I want from YouTube in the time it takes for the song to play through. It's not rocket science. It's called "audacity".

What happens if I were to take these tracks and post them on my YouTube channel? Are these people going to come after me? If they do, they aren't going to win. I won't give two shits about "their consternation". The only reason I haven't is that it puts "nothinbutblue" in a bad position.

Then again, he should of known this was coming. I'm sure he knew what I went through, and I warned him it would happen. Since I knew this, I took the liberty of copying every track he uploaded. I know others that did too. It's common sense if you're a big fan really; it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. My only problem is that it would of been better to post them as lossless someplace else to maintain highest possible quality. People are going to get them either way, so they might as well let certain people preserve them that way. Now all we have are high-quality lossy copies, and given this "consternation", I don't expect any to be reposted in better quality anytime soon.

Lastly, I wish some of these people who are upset about 'nothinbutblue''s work would crawl out of the shadows and identify themselves, rather than being the cowardly bitches that they are. Then again, if it's the same people who came after me, then it's no surprise.

Here's another good conversation I had this evening.

I want it to be known that I'm not a very politically-correct person. I feel that America has become an oversensitive place where people or more worried about feelings and not offending people than being correct, truthful, or just easy-going.

For example, I'm well aware Phil Lynott is half-white, half-black. However, in the course of many casual conversations I have with people, especially ones not that familiar with Lynott or Lizzy, I might say something like 'Lynott was a black-irishman', or 'Lynott was one of the few successful black rock stars', or something like that. By saying this, I'm not denying his half-whiteness, I'm just choosing to accentuate his "blackness", because it makes him more unique. It's technically not dishonest, at least in my mind, because I've always considered a person black if they are 25%, 50%, or 100% black. I don't mean it like I'm a racist. I have black friends, and they've told me they don't mind being called 'black' as opposed to African-American. Some even prefer it. Even the technically bi-racial ones don't mind. I also do it because it's just simple, easy, and to be honest, no one really gives a fuck anyway. But of course, there's always one or two pedantic assholes that want to make a big deal out of something like that. In my mind, making a big deal about someone's race is just pointless anyway, and it's probably half the reason we still have racial problems today, because people just care too much about pointless bullshit such as skin color and being overly PC about it. I like Phil Lynott because what he wrote and sang about, not because of what color he is.

Anyway here is the conversation. Any thoughts about this would be appreciated.

Lynott's accomplishments are being belittled because of your hellbent obsession with proving that he's biracial, something that I've never once denied. The fucker then chose to comment on my channel, and I chose to comment back on his, saying that his obsession seemed a bit unhealthy, and that perhaps he could be doing something more important with his life than worrying about whether or not someone is correctly classifying a person's race. Of course, he deleted my comments on his channel, because they might be seen by a person with a brain and they might use some common sense in determining that this guy is a little psychotic. I also made the point that people might take him more seriously if he typed comments without 50 typing errors in them...but what the hell do I know?

His biggest mistake however is that he chooses to use race and ethnicity as if they are interchangible terms. They are not. Race is black, white, hispanic, pacific islander, native american...etc. To be very un-PC about this...race is your color. Ethnicity, on the other hand, has to do with sharing traits through a common heritage. Irish, German, Czech, English, Scottish would be mine. Jews are an ethnic group. Ethnic groups share traits, be it linguistic, cultural, behavioral, religious, etc, and race is just one factor in that. Race can be a common trait within an ethnic group, but it in itself is NOT ethnicity. Phil Lynott was half-black and that is his race, but his ethnicity is wholly Irish. Even though Phil's dad was from British Guyana, I would claim that Phil shares none of ethnic traits associated with Guyana (whatever they are). I really don't see how that can be debated. Likewise there's a lot of white people in South Africa who are in fact African, but they sure as hell aren't black. So they aren't the same.

Basicially I know me going around calling Phil Lynott black is not as accurate as saying he's biracial, and maybe I'm technically wrong, but I'm also saying that I don't really give a fuck and that I understand the truth and just don't see a need to get overly technical about it. I certainly don't feel like calling him black is insulting. (Besides, I can't call him African-American, he's neither from Africa or America). Phil called himself black. Black Boys on the Corner? I'll be damned if he wasn't writing about himself as a kid. Phil knew he was biracial, but had no problem being called black. I view it the same way.

Lynott fans will be amused by what is said in the comments section. If you don't want to bother, then I've taken the liberty to copy them here for your amusement. There's a few points I want to be clear about first.

First off, this guy claims to have known Phil Lynott in the early 1970s. Prior to this conversation he had talked about knowing him in Germany and that he somehow "didn't get what was promised to him" or something to that effect. He also went on about "nazi uniforms"...not sure what that was about, but basically I think this guy has a few issues. Lynott probably did have the misfortune of running into this man in Germany in the early 70s and probably realized that he was off his rocker (no pun intended!) and wanted nothing to do with him. Never once have I claimed the tracks as mine, at least in the sense that "I own them". Yes, I have copies of them and that's what I'm referring to when I speak about them possessively. I didn't write the songs or perform them obviously. I haven't 'poached' other's videos (unlike certain other people). Likewise, I've never claimed to be an expert. Secondly, how does one 'flag' an entire site? Good luck with that. Not that I'm worried about it, but if I ever get shut down, I'll just get a new account and the songs will go right back up. And then I'll find the person(s) responsible and villianize them to the point where they won't be able to come on YouTube and hear about how much of a douchebag they are. Sure, I've made a few enemies here and there, but I think there's way more people that appreciate what I've done than there are detractors. I'm not going to pretend to like someone if I don't. It's dishonest. And yes, I can really be a jerk sometimes, but I honestly think certain people need that...sometimes being nice to them and trying to explain it rationally just doesn't come across to them. Help with lyrics for rare Lynott tracks.

Hi everyone. Sorry for the extended absence. I've been working like a mad man.

Lately, I've been getting several requests for lyrics to some of the rare Lynott/Grand Slam/Lizzy songs. Obviously I can't just look them up online and post them, because they haven't been posted by anyone else. So, I've painstakingly tried to transcribe some of them myself...which has led to mixed results.

Here's where you come in. I'm requesting help to transcribe any songs that I've posted related to Lizzy and Lynott. This also goes for any Sabbath fans who would like to transcribe any of the alternate versions of Paranoid and MoR tracks that I've posted. It's more beneficial to have several sets of ears than it is just one. People hear differently and I think it's a good way to get involved. If anyone is willing to help me out, I'd be more than happy to pass along some stuff from my collection.

If you decide to transcribe a song, just go ahead and comment on it and you can either post your work there in the comments section, pm it to me at YouTube, or email it to me at sweeneyrp@hotmail.com. Even if you can only get a few lines of a song...anything is helpful.

For example, one tough song I've been having trouble with is "She Cries" by Grand Slam. The quality isn't the greatest and I can't make out significant portions. Another user gave his input and while some of it I think it is correct, there's other parts that I totally disagree with, and that emphasizes the importance of having several people listen to it. I'd like to be able to get a lot of these songs transcribed correctly (or as best as possible) so they can be posted on lyric sites.

The "Real Canadian" James Taylor (www.trcjt.ca/ab950/lizzy.html) also has attempted to post lyrics to some of the rarer tracks (notably Revolution, Catholic Charm, and Don't Let Him Slip Away). I, however, do not hear the same things he heard when he created his transcription of the lyrics. I could go into this in detail but it's not important. If you're truly interested, compare my transcription of Don't Let Him Slip Away against his transcription and check out the differences. I'm not saying he's wrong and I'm right...I very well could be wrong...but I'd like some more opinions on the subject. For the record, his page is amazing and he obviously has taken a lot of time over the years compiling all that information. If you haven't checked out his page, you should.

This is what irriatates me. It's not the fact he has a differing opinion. It's his haughty know-it-all attitude. I also don't think Fairies Wear Boots belongs in any Sabbath top ten. I don't think Warning belongs in a top ten either. This brings me to my second point. I've been contacted by a few people about some of the shows I requested in an earlier post, a few of which were posted within the last two years on places like DIME and TTD. I've never been a big trader mostly do to the time and prep work it takes to work out a trade-with addition to having a couple bad experiences along the way. Besides that, I've always never been truly possessive over the music that is in my collection. It's just that--music. I've never understood why people boast huge collections and then never share any of it (or only share when something amazing appears.) I'd just like to make an appeal to people:

Share your stuff.

I know for a fact my collection could of been a lot bigger had I decided to trade shows to a select few, rather than share them over the net with everyone. I decided against this a long time ago, and that I would much rather allow people to hear it for free (truly for free) than to boast an insane collection, only to be despised and accused of being in it for some kind of ego-driven purpose. I've been accused of having one anyway with the whole YouTube page and my sometimes heavy-handed way of dealing with people, but I like to think of myself as quite humble, at least in person and to those I truly care about.

I'm not out of stuff to post. I have plenty of Sabbath material, some Lizzy interviews, a few tracks here and there...but someday I'm sure I will be. I know I've made enemies in the trading world with how I've gone about things. I don't care though, I'm 100% convinced I've done the right thing, although because of it, I know I'm sort of blacklisted from some people's trading pools. Also, I don't intend on posting 74 versions of the "Boys are Back In Town" or "Paranoid" just to stay relevant on YouTube. Once I feel I've exhaused my collection...that's it. I'll have done my part. I guess I'm hoping that a few other people out there (and some have) step up and continue to post, or some new people start posting gems from their collections. It's not about entitlement or trying to get something for free. I truly believe its the right thing to do. I might have rare tracks in my collection, but I certainly don't feel that I 'own' them, or that I'm more entitled to them than anyone else, hence the reason I share everything I get my hands on in the first place. I just happen to be lucky to have them.

I make this request now because it's the anniversary of what would of been Mr. Philip Lynott's 60th birthday on Thursday. I would love to see people who have shows, even if they might be fairly common or not long absent from the torrent trackers on DIME, TTD, TapeCity, etc. to make an appearance come Wed-Fri. I mean what better occasion is there? What is there to wait for? Rapture? Remember, you can't take it with you.

I myself will let the cat out of the bag now and say that I am uploading a show on TTD. I don't want to say which one, but it's a good one. I've had it almost a year now and have been careful not to post anything from it, just for this occasion. However, if things don't change, it might be the last Lizzy/Lynott related thing I offer on any torrent tracker. I know there's people out there with shows and while there's a few that have done so much already...there's other people that can do so much more.

Hi everyone,

I know it's been awhile, but I've just returned from Wisconsin and now I'm back in Ohio. Once I get everything returned to how it was before I left, I should be ready to post some more stuff on YouTube. There is only one more big project left to get out of the way, which I will explain below.

Right now, I am putting together a master list of all the shows I've collected. This includes all the lossless Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy shows in my collection. This will also include shows from other artists that I've collected bits and pieces of; for example, I have all of Led Zeppelin's shows from 1979 and 1980, tons of UFO from 1975-1983, many shows by The Who, a few Dio shows, a few Ozzy shows with Randy Rhoads, some early shows by The Cars, a little Metallica and Megadeth, and a few other odds and ends. As I make the list, the shows will be put onto discs, and once and for all, I can be caught up. It will also come in handy should I decide to resume actively trading. Right now I'm not because I don't have time, but when it gets to be September/October, I should be ready to trade with a few people.

If you're interested, let me know by leaving me a message at YouTube, or you can email me personally at sweeneyrp@hotmail.com. Keep in mind it won't be right away, and I can't meet every trade request, and I also might not be interested in certain things. When my master list is finished, anyone who wants a copy just needs to ask and I'll email it out.

One more thing...I'm looking for a couple shows that I used to have but have lost since I transitioned to a new computer. If anyone has them, I would be interested in acquiring them. Keep in mind that I'm looking for them in lossless quality (.wav/.flac/.shn). The shows are:

Hi Everyone.

Today I decided to log into my YouTube account and found a cute little message left by my friend AXLVFLYER to a response I made on one of his posts. For those of you who don't know him, he posts various rock videos and songs, a lot like I do, but also more videos. A lot of his material falls into the same category as mine: bootlegged ROIOs and DVDs. This stuff is acceptable to posts and its why him and I have remained in good standing with the powers-to-be at YouTube.

I will say this though. We don't like each other.

AXLVFLYER is an uninformed noob. He has at least 3 different channels he operates under different, but similar names. He has thousands of videos total...making my channel small in comparison. He has a lot of great footage, but he ticks me off for two big reasons.

1) Many of his videos are things someone else had already posted
2) Several of his videos give incorrect/misleading information

Now I normally wouldn't give a shit if a person resposted something I posted. I just don't. Other people came to me first and mentioned him and how he had taken videos from other people and reposted them in his channel. I didn't want to get involved...that's between them and AXL. That didn't stop me from checking out AXL/ZODIAFKV's channel though (he has two main ones). Right off the bat I noticed he had posted some Lizzy from the Peel Sessions discs which he had titled as "alternate studio tracks". That's obviously not true. The Peel Sessions discs are pretty well-known in the Lizzy trading community. Additionally, he posted many of the same tracks I had posted at least a year prior. A simple YouTube search would of shown that...and wouldn't have taken more than two seconds. Reposting I can live with, but if you're gonna post something, don't try to pass it off as something it's clearly not. So I began to have a nice conversation with AXL about this. It undermines their work, and I'm not much into doing that to others. Doing so and trying to make nice isn't really going to stop me from making my point.I'm just saying I'm not really getting why you double and triple post stuff, especially when someone else has already posted it. It's just sort of...pointless. I mean how many videos do you need? Look on my page and see how many doubled videos I have...it's not many and the only reason any would be doubled is because people decided to post the same songs later.

Now, I don't have a problem when it's a few songs or certain users who only have a few videos. They like the song too and that's great. But you have two channels and 400 trillion videos, and then decide too double and triple post stuff people can already find. It's just dumb.

I know YouTube doesn't have rules about the stuff I'm speaking about, but just because you're on the internet doesn't mean you shouldn't be respectful and considerate to others. If someone beats me to a post, then I don't post it. I've only posted a couple things that were already posted, and I had good reason to do so (both were Sabbath songs). I've been complimented by other people that posted some Lizzy stuff saying they were happy that I didn't step on their toes, and I try to be cognizant of that. Now, if AXL didn't have 6 channels with 500+ videos on each, I wouldn't care, but honestly what's his point? It's almost like he's trying to monopolize rock music and trying to put up every damn thing he can find on his channel. And people say I have a big ego...

All I did was correct the poor bastard. Didn't mean to start a nuke-throwing game. First off, I called his bluff on the whole account-banning thing. AXL doesn't own the copyrights either, and you can only get videos banned by proving you own the copyrights. AXL doesn't own jackshit, so he's not going to be able to get my account banned. Good try though douche. Likewise, I can't get his account banned either, but I can make him look like a complete dumbass by typing about his practices in my blog...

I also like how in one breath he claims he never hardly goes on my channel, and that's his main excuse for all the double and triple posting he does. Then in this latest tirade, he claims I get all my stuff from Guitars101. How would you be able to make that assessment if you NEVER GO TO MY CHANNEL??? How about you spew some more shit from your mouth AXL that makes no sense? In fact, the 10 videos on my channel page, exactly ZERO of those were downloaded from Guitars101. Basically if he just learned exactly what he had in his possession, I'd be fine. I'm tired of people thinking those Peel Sessions tracks are demos/alternative studio sessions. What makes me even more mad is that he sits there and argues with me/insults me rather than just admitting his mistake and moving on. If he hates me giving my opinion of him, then he just needs to ban me (like I did to him) from commenting and move on. I'm still not sure how he thinks he's going to get YouTube to take down my account. If copyright was an issue it would of been down a long fucking time ago. Just look around at some of the Michael Schenker material and Lizzy material he's posted and see if anyone else had posted it first...I bet 90% of it is repeated. I no longer consider myself an Ozzy Osbourne fan. I never thought I'd say that, but today I learned something that I never in my wildest dreams thought would occur.

Ozzy Osbourne is suing Tony Iommi for a 50% stake in the name "Black Sabbath".

This would of made a great April Fools' story. It's not April 1 though. It's also not a joke, but rather the epitome of selfish, egotistical, foolish, pathetic greed. Ozzy is basically saying that the name should be shared equally among the original 4 members, and also says that his distinctive voice is the reason Sabbath was popular, and that their reunion saved Sabbath from the toilet (I'm paraphrasing but whatever). The copy of the documents are over at Blabbermouth, as well as the entire story.

Well, Ozzy/$haron...you've done it. You've completely alienated your entire fan base. The thing that really gets me is that usually I have to deal with people that think Ozzy=Sabbath, but 95% of the comments completely supported Iommi and his position. This makes me feel good. It tells me that a lot of people are quite keen to the shit the Osbourne's have pulled over the years.

Iommi has owned the sole rights to the Sabbath name since 1985. Ozzy gave away his stake in 1980. It was not big deal for him...he had his solo career and he was bigger than Sabbath. Sabbath was done for. Hell, he was even able to get the billing at Live Aid to be "Ozzie Osbourne featuring Black Sabbath". It never mattered to Ozzy when Ozzy was on top. But when Ozzy feels the pressure from his former band...he goes and does something crazy. First it was "Speak of the Devil" (responding to Live Evil), then it was the Farewell B.S. in 1992...and now this...because H&H has a top 10 album and has completed a couple of successful tours.

The biggest question that remains for me about all this...is that if Ozzy is so concerned about getting an equal stake from the Sabbath name (despite the fact he didn't do hardly any work) then why aren't Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake getting credit for their work on those solo albums? It blows my mind. I've always given Ozzy the benefit of the doubt, because everyone knows it's that greedy bitch (the digital bitch) $haron O$bourne who is pulling the strings...whether it be erasing the work of accomplished musicians or destroying Ozzfest by fucking up other bands performances (Maiden in '05), but this is the last straw. Ozzy refuses to put a stop to this nonsense, and because of it, I can no longer support his work, nor will I buy anymore of his music (not that it's that good anymore anyway). The only reason I'm keeping any of his solo work in my personal music collection is because of guys like Randy Rhoads, Geezer, Daisley, Jake E. Lee, and all the other musicians he's shafted. Their work is the only reason I can even bear to listen to those CDs. Otherwise I would put throw them in the trash...which is right where "Black Rain" and 'Down to Earth" are going when I get back to Ohio. I don't listen to either one anyway.

Speaking of which, I know I've been a bit lazy on YouTube and on my blog. I'm in Wisconsin right now, living with my dear Grandma and taking care of her 5 acre yard and running all her errands during the day. I check in a lot online, but I don't have a lot of spare time to post anything new, and the internet here is a bit slower than the internet I have in Ohio, so it tests my patience. Besides all that, my YouTube account is screwed up; my comments and messages always show up as new, and I lose track of what I read and respond to, and what I keep until later. I have to delete it to keep it from growing, and I probably lose track of stuff. I've emailed YouTube about it but they never fix it, so...whatever. Stuff will appear sporadically and on a whim, just so you're aware.

I also found out that my clip of 'Shockwave' from Abilene has been removed from YouTube...the other songs from the same recording haven't (yet), but I'm not sure why...it shouldn't violate copyright since it's a soundboard from the show...not from an officially released show, so I might have to fight for that one. This copyright stuff is out of control though...

Well I'm rambling...but I had to say something regarding this latest episode from the Osbourne camp. Nothing would make me happier than Iommi crushing them in court...although Ozzy has damaged his legacy beyond repair anyway...no matter who wins.

Hi everyone.

Sorry about any delays. I think I answered most of my important PMs on YouTube. If not, then shoot me another one.

I don't want to get in too many details, but I had a family member pass away last week and I was either out of town, or just made myself unavailable. Not that I got any complaints from anyone about my absence, but I thought I would just make that clear in case there were some that weren't brought to my attention.

I posted one new video earlier on YouTube. Another soundcheck track by Sabbath. Should be a treat for you all.

I also got curious and downloaded the disc of demos/alternate tracks from the deluxe version of Paranoid that was just released. I noticed that on "War Pigs" the vocal can still be heard at certain parts. Get a good set of headphones and put it on if you have the track. Listen to the first two or three minutes, and you can hear a low vocal. Especially when Ozzy would yell "Oh Lord Yeah!". It's there. I didn't hear it on any of the other tracks (yet), but I'm starting to think that these Instrumental versions might not necessarily be legit. Maybe some of these were concocted prior to release by removing vocals and claiming them to be something else after the fact. I don't know. If anyone has the disc, I'd like your take on this.

A couple weeks ago, a guy named "Gutlit" on DIME (www.dimeadozen.org) posted some choice selections from his collection. He posted another version of the Ray Gillen Eternal Idol Demos. This version is the best that I've ever heard. It's different than the first version in that the songs have ALL the guitar solos, whereas the other version doesn't, but these sound so crisp. They are supposedly from the master tape and it certainly sounds that way. They almost sound like a finished product, and they are arguably better than the actual album. It's a bold claim, but damn these sound amazing. Here's the link for those:

I wanted to do something funny for April Fools Day, but I'm worried if I post a video claiming to have a rare song, and I instead show Rick Astley singing "Never gonna give you up", I'd probably upset a lot of people. The guy is nuts an absolute headcase, well known in Lizzy circles and banned from every Thin Lizzy site there's ever been. Holding that idiot up as some kind of example was the best thing I've read in a long time. I guess you were trying yet again to provoke a reaction but I guess we were to busy laughing. I'm not sure what makes him so mental, as he came across well to me, both via email and in his message at the Trust. I would say he came across "logically", logic being something you're not really into.

BTW, I didn't know you were the official spokesperson/propaganda minister for RockLegend, Nick. Read up on Joseph Goebbels, he would make a good role-model for you. Hell, Phil Osborne can be Hitler and Frank Healy can be Heinrich Himmler. How's that sound? Did I miss anyone? Let me know, and I can assign roles to anyone else that wants one. I hadn't made my way over to RockLegend (http://www.thin-lizzy.info/) in awhile, but today I was winding down after work and wanted to check out their news page. I was aware of their stance on "Still Dangerous", which is one I actually agree with. I suspect that they have taken some flack for it based on what I saw on a cached page that once appeared on the forums at Roisin Dubh Trust. I don't even have an account at the Trust, and to be honest, I try to avoid forums because it seems like I get too sucked into them and the "politics" that seem to surround them. Very rarely have I encountered any type of forum where there wasn't some sort of bias or favoritism contained within. Keep in mind that I don't have anything against forums or people that use them, but I have trouble "towing the party line" because I have in my head a set of standards that I follow regardless of what's popular. Eventually something I think is right contradicts these "politics" that run a particular forum, and that leads to problems.

The post at The Trust is made by a guy I don't even know. If he sees this, I would like him to come forward and introduce himself via email or at YouTube. Maybe he has and I just haven't put two and two together. I get messages all the time, and I try and keep up but sometimes I read one, meaning full well to get back to it later and sometimes I just don't. So if this happened, I'm sorry. It wasn't intentional.

I just copied parts of two of the posts. The thread no longer exists. Obviously there was some other points of contention that aren't really revelent to the subject at hand, and I removed those. I left in the parts about "Still Dangerous" and my other main point, which I will make in a minute.

So this is what it has come to? RockLegend's entry now comes by invite only. The guy at the Trust had it right. How the hell can you have a discussion worth a damn if you can only have one viewpoint? I suppose "malcontents" are people that disagree with trivial matters and say the "wrong" things. Or in my case, you post a song or two they don't want posted, despite the fact they don't own them, and get bitched at for weeks on end until I had enough sense to just leave.

I'm not like this. Yes, I do ban people and argue with people. I've removed comments before. Do I play favorites...perhaps...I know I'm hard on a lot of anti-Dio/pro-Ozzy fans, but that's only because I'm trying to right 25+ years of misconception and inaccuracy. But do I go as far as to pre-judge people before they even subscribe to my YouTube account? Hell no. Do I request a person's life story to be able to view my videos? Of course not. Have I banned a person simply because they disagreed. No. I've only barred people that pick fights, type run-on sentences, and senselessly argue with me. RockLegend is trying to spin it so it appears that they've had to do it this way because of malcontents....because of people like me...and like some others I know. That's horseshit. They are doing it because they want complete control of who gets into their "debate". I remember telling some of the RLers that they ran the place like a dictatorship (and I probably called them nazis) and it was comments like these that got me booted out. Well, it sure as hell doesn't look like a democracy...even more so now.

I don't know if RL actually wanted people to boycott "Still Dangerous". I'm not going to really get into that. I went out and bought it, despite knowing its "problems". It's not a bad album at all; just not one that I had expected or hoped for, and I hope next time around, these issues will be considered (and I have a feeling they will be.)

I guess my only wish is that RL would step back and start blaming themselves for their issues instead of pointing fingers at anyone that has even had a qualm with them. The way they have treated people in the past is what has forced them to become isolated. They claim that they are independent and critical and that's why they are unpopular. No it's not. I'll just say it plain: You're unpopular because you treat people like shit. I'm very independent and critical too, and I haven't had to go to the same extremes. It's amazing how far a little niceness and generousity can go.

I'm sure I'll get a few emails from some for this rant. I don't really give a shit.

I had a funny thought no more than 30 seconds ago. I was thinking that throughout the year, I should keep tabs on all the stupid people that attempt to argue with me on my own videos, pick the stupidest five people, and have a poll at the end of the year on the winner, voted on by the people here. I don't know what prize this lucky person would win, but I can figure that out later. I might need more than 6 people to participate too, but I'm sure readers would be interested to give me their two cents without singing up.

I made no edits to this. Why mess with brilliance? This comment, while annoying, isn't quite enough to make me flip out (as evidenced by the response I gave him). He has an opinion, even though it's horribly written and that last little jab at Dio makes it seem childish. I'm not sure how he thinks Dio drove Sabbath into the ground, as "Heaven and Hell" was a comeback album and pretty much kicked Black Sabbath in the balls and made them respectable again. His comments about Dio's performance are actually fair...he didn't sing NIB well on this occasion. Fine. However, I don't recall Ozzy singing perfectly every time out either...or at all in the last 5-7 years. But it's ok to slam Dio, because he's Dio. He's not Ozzy.

Okay...I'm calling bullshit here. The first thing that starts to irritate me, is that he starts throwing out dates like I somehow don't know the history of Black Sabbath. Yes, I'm fully aware Ozzy was in the band from 1969-1979. Keep in mind they were still "Earth" until August '69. So, he's technically wrong already, but that's nit-picking. There's much more stuff to pick on here. Like that brilliant line about Sabbath "inventing the key they play in". WTF??? You can't 'invent' a musical key you douche. I think he's talking about tuning down, but Sabbath didn't even do this until 1971. I also don't understand how he decided that Ozzy was the "best voice in rock and roll". What standard is he using to determine that? Everyone with a brain knows he's not the best technically. As a showman...well, I seem to recall Ozzy not being too wild until the mid 70s. I think Alice Cooper was a hell of a better showman, and I'm sure there's others as well.

The thing that gets me the most is something I mentioned in a previous post. How come these pro-Ozzy fans type like a bunch of broken-handed 5 year olds? If you're going to argue with me, it might help your cause if you at least LOOKED intelligent by writing sentences and spelling words right. Just some advice. If I wrote something like that and gave it to my boss, my ass would be fired. That's a real world application for those who will say "it's the internet, so who cares?". Great.

Where the fuck do I even begin with this? Thinking back, I wished I had just asked him "How do you know what kittens being raped sounds like?", and left it at that, but the crux of his message is so mindblowingly stupid that I would of felt unsatisfied. Again, his history is a little off. I find it funny how he highlights 'musical diffences' and says 'they didn't like dios style' and uses that as an excuse as to why Dio-led Sabbath sucks. Well maybe you haven't heard you dolt, but that exact lineup is releasing a new album on April 28. So much for 'musical diffences'. Not to mention "Dehumanizer"...

I also like how this jackass feels he's speaking for all of Sabbath fandom when he thinks that "no pure Sabbath fan" liked Dio's style. I know a lot of Sabbath fans that not only like it, but they prefer it. Joe Siegler (www.black-sabbath.com) himself admits to discovering Sabbath through "Mob Rules"...not the classic lineup. The thing that pisses me off the most is when my allegiance to the band is questioned. Who the fuck does this asshole think he is saying I'm not a true Sabbath fan, or that I'm "rootin for the wrong Sabbath". It's fine to have preferences; I do and I know other people do as well, but this is the fact: There is ONE Black Sabbath. Black Sabbath has Tony Iommi in it. Any record that says Black Sabbath, released by Mr. Iommi, is a Black Sabbath record. You don't have to like it, and you don't need to buy it or listen to it, but that doesn't change the facts. If this jackass wants to lie to himself and think they aren't Sabbath records, then fine, but don't sit there and tell me I'm wrong. I'm not into revisionist history and I'm not into Ozzy fanboys trying to spin it to make Ozzy look like a God and everyone else ever associated with Sabbath look like crap. First off, as requested by a few of you, I have posted a link to download the FULL master recording of Black Sabbath's Milwaukee Riot 1980. The files are in .flac, so I ask if you convert the files to mp3, that you NOT repost them in that format. You are, however, welcome to repost the original .flacs, and if you choose to burn them to disc, convert the .flac files into .wav files to get the best quality CD you can. I know a lot of you know this already, but some don't. You can also play .flac files using Foobar2000, which is just an amazing .flac player. If it was a pile of shit, I wouldn't even bring it up, but it's totally worth downloading if you want to be able to play .flac files.

The crux of this post though is to discuss the newly released Thin Lizzy: "Still Dangerous" CD. As many of you already know, Scott Gorham was pretty much in charge of this project, and pretty much screwed it up. I love Scott Gorham has a guitar player, but I'm beginning to think he took too many drugs back in the 70s and early 80s. His interviews often go against already established facts (for example he said he joined Lizzy in 1973, which he didn't), and he's also suggested that the new Gorham/Sykes Lizzy outfit (if you can even call it Lizzy) may record NEW material. I hope not.

Anyway, for the record, I'm glad Lizzy's remaining members and management have decided to release some of the stuff they have located in the vaults of the record companies. My problem is with how they are going about doing it. 'Still Dangerous' is a 10 track abomination. Here's why:

1) It's not a single complete show.

My impression initally was that 'Still Dangerous' would be an official release of one of the two Philadelphia '77 gigs that took place on October 20 and 21, 1977 at the Tower Theatre. The first of the two is featured on Wolfgang's Vault, in it's entirety. I actually used audacity to record the sound off of it and edited out all the little clicks and trimmed the intro down just enough to get it to fit on one 80 min disc. That 80 min show is probably the best representation of Thin Lizzy that there is. It's better than Live and Dangerous by a mile. If not this, then I hoped it would be the mostly unreleased 21st of October show. However, the consumer won't be getting either one. They are getting essentially a compilation of the two shows, and only 10 tracks (12 on the import release). It's not the full show, and it's not from one show. That's strike one.

2) They changed the running order of the original set!

This is an even worse crime than #1. One of the things Phil Lynott did best, as mentioned by Brian Robertson, John Sykes, and even Gorham himself in interviews, was that Phil Lynott knew how to put a set list together. There's a good 150 bootlegs out there that further prove this point. Why in the hell did Gorham decide to change the order of the songs? What is he trying to achieve here? He's already destroyed the show by omitting songs, and now he wants to completely ruin it by changing the order? Pull your head out of your ass Scott!

3) They actually had the audacity to EDIT tracks!

Looking for that awesome Sax solo by John Earle in "Dancing In the Moonlight"? Don't expect to hear it. It's not fucking there. How about that ridiculously awesome drum solo by Brian Downey in Bad Reputation (one of the "bonus tracks")? Not there either. Want to hear the song 'Johnny'? You won't...it's not even included in the 12 tracks. How about Emerald? Only if you purchase the bonus tracks. Do you see my point? It's a fucking cash grab. I've always encouraged and hoped that more of this material would be released for the fans, but what's the point when you do so in a way that doesn't even justify how good the material actually is. Personally, rather than buy this disc, everyone should go rip a copy of the Philly show at Wolfgang's Vault. It's 1000 times better and that's a much more real representation of Lizzy at their peak than what Mr. Gorham decided to put together on his break from touring.

Here's my advice to Mr. Gorham:

Next time, forget about the mulitiple cash grabs, forget about changing it up--take the show, remaster the sound, make an awesome booklet, and just release it. Let the music dictate the sale. If you did it this way, I guarantee it would be bigger than "Live and Dangerous". There are shows out there that are BETTER than "Live and Dangerous"...and those were 100% real. Not overdubbed in a studio. It can be done. However, you might only have one more chance to get it right, and some people aren't even that generous. Get the new generations of Lizzy fans started the right way. Not with "Still Dangerous", but that's anything but "right".

Yeah ok, so that title is a bit over the top. Lately I've been seeing some perculiar things on YouTube that I thought I would point out and comment on, just because I can. One thing that has struck me as odd is the number of "super rare Sabbath tracks" on YouTube that turn out to be one of the following:

A) Not even a Sabbath song.

B) Something that's ridiculously common that people THINK is rare.

The second situation is somewhat forgivable. The first isn't. With the power of the internet at a person's disposal, there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON why people should be posting music without checking it out first and making sure what they are actually posting is authentic. The reason I make a big deal about this is because I occasionally get messages from people asking if the stuff I post is legitmate, which of course it is. However, this doubt wouldn't exist if there weren't dumbasses posting music that isn't what they claim it to be. Here's a couple examples I'd like to share with you all.

Example 1: (EDIT: link has been removed)

Claim: This guy has posted a video called Black Sabbath - Electric Sleep. It's a track unreleased from the Paranoid-era. It's super rare!

What it actually is: Any idiot with a working hand could of gone to "related videos" and clicked on Sheavy's "Electric Sleep", where you would find THE EXACT same track being played live. You think the uploader would have been curious at all...but I guess not. This is stupidity at it's finest.

Claim: "Black Sabbath Paranoid (unknow demo) i've found this on a blog and i even remember the name, don't ask me questions about it 'cause i don't know! "

What it really is: Apparently in this user's excitement to get this "gem" uploaded, he didn't bother to proofread his title or video info. Already a bad sign. I have my doubts that this user found this on a blog, unless that blog was called "shitty 13 year old guitar player can play the Paranoid riff on his Squier guitar and record it and put it on YouTube". Now, if that had been the title of his video, then I would have no qualms about it. Instead, he has chosen to falsely title the video, which now will only bring him ridicule and shame. Mostly from me.

Yeah, it sounds harsh...but there's too many people that spend years of their time collecting, cataloguing, and maintaining great collections of unreleased/live/bootleg material, to have to deal with shit like this. People shouldn't have to doubt collectors that have extensive knowledge of the band's material just because some dolts think they have some great unreleased demo version of Paranoid. It's all fools' gold people...fools' gold.

Just recently I posted "More Peel Sessions" on DIME. First off, I would like to thank a fellow YouTuber, who went out of his way in getting me lossless copies of his silvers so I could post this on DIME.

About an hour ago, I got an email from one of the Mods on DIME about a reply I had made to another user. The user was slightly upset that I had removed a track from the torrent I posted. The track in question is "Emerald", recorded on 2/12/76 for the BBC. The actual boot lists the song as "Warriors", which is a mistake. As you can see this is already a slightly confusing issue. In any event, I removed the track from the torrent as the rules say you must.

Anyway, I replied to the user, saying that I had no intentions of posting the torrent on another site in full. I then explained the switch and said that a version of Warriors did in fact appear on another unreleased Peel Sessions disc (I think it's titled "Peel Sessions: Deep From the Vaults" or something...). I also have that particular track, and it's here on YouTube (look up "Warriors" BBC Session). This track is on the third release, and I expressed some hope that another user would post this 3rd disc.

Then I get the email from the Mod. He totally sends me this long uber-complicated and long-winded email, saying how my reply is bannable because I suggested that I was going to repost the torrent with the official release, and that on DIME, it could be trouble for them. What the fuck???? That's not what I said at all. I guess these people can't fucking read. Besides, even if I had said what they claimed, is it really THAT big a deal? Just fucking delete it and move on. I'd post the email sent to me here in full...but it's way too fucking long. I'll just post the first part, and my response.

It's really not that big a deal. The officially released Peel Sessions disc has the exact same version of Emerald. I have it (in lossless) and got curious so I compared them and they are identical. Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake vs. the Osbournes

Hi Everyone. I know this issue has been beaten to death, but I need to make some comments about it...mostly to shut up some obnoxious hard-core Ozzy fans.

On this particular post: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4f_mQcpNuNA, a discussion about the afforementioned issue has begun with myself and a user by the name of TheJayDeeOldBoy. I need to clarify some stuff about this issue before I go into my argument. This user previously went by the name "Sabbath370". Some of my longtime subscribers may remember him. He was an obnoxious jerk who pretty much had a hard-on for Ozzy Osbourne, hated Dio, hated anyone who argued against Ozzy's contributions to anything, and then when asked to prove his arguments, never could. He thinks he's some kind of expert, but in all reality, he doesn't know shit. He might be the British version of Scott Lifshine (some of you know who he is as well, and that should tell you something). His account was banned by YouTube long before the crusade that groups like WMG have taken on, and I'm fairly sure he was banned by YouTube simply because everything he said was idiotic, annoying, and 100% incorrect. He's like a troll, except trolls usually just do it for attention. He does it because he actually thinks he's correct.

Anyway, as most of you are aware, Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake were the original bassist and drummer for Ozzy Osbourne's solo band. They played and were credited on the first album, and also recorded the music for the second album, "Diary of A Madman". However, an issue arose about money. Daisley and Kerslake weren't being paid. Then, while on a vacation, Daisley and Kerslake were both fired, completely out of the blue. Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge were brought in AND given credit for the work on the album, despite the fact they never played a single note. Daisley and Kerslake later sued the Osbournes in 1987 and won a settlement.

I have a book in my personal rock library (that is still quite small), called "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath: The Battle for Black Sabbath", by Garry-Sharpe Young. It consists of many great interviews, although it takes from both the book "Black Sabbath: Never Say Die" and "Ozzy Osbourne: Rockdetector" (both written by Sharpe-Young). It's a good book to have if you want a perspective without shelling out for the latter, which I didn't. There's a good selection on page 59, where Aldridge said this:

"I remember someone (who shall remain nameless) trying to get me to rerecord the drums [on Diary]. I declined saying I couldn't approve upon what he [Kerslake] did. I didn't know it at the time, but I was being approached not to 'improve', but only to 'replace' his performance. I didn't know why but I can only imagine."

That was back in 1982 already. Oddly enough, Daisley returned to the fold and wrote 95% of the lyrics and some of the music for the following three albums after this (mostly because Ozzy's new musicians couldn't write shit either), through "No Rest of the Wicked". He also wrote lyrics for "No More Tears", but these were not used and other musicians and writers wrote that album for Ozzy. The entire Osbourne catalogue was remasted in 1995, and for the first time, people were able to pick up some of the original albums on CD. The catalogue was remastered again in 2002, but here's some important stuff to know:

1) The first two albums have the drums and bass entirely replaced by Mike Bordin and Robert Trujillo, effectively ruining them. (They sound like shit!)
and
2) 'Ultimate Sin' and 'Speak of the Devil' were completely deleted from the catalogue. (Good luck trying to buy those).

All this was done simply because Sharon didn't want Bob Daisley to get royalties for his work on the first two albums, and Ultimate Sin. I suppose there was no way to screw up the other two albums to prevent Bob Daisley from getting royalities from those either, but I doubt he's even getting paid anyway. If you're not aware, you can tell the difference between the '95 remasters and the '02 remasters by the CD cover. The former have "OZZY" in big letters with a small picture of the album, while the '02 remasters have the normal, full-sized cover. If you're looking to hear the original...go to Ebay and look online. They are still around. I actually bought "Ultimate Sin" brand new at Best Buy just over three years ago (2005)...so there's still hope.

So basically, if TheJayDeeOldBoy starts spewing nonsense from his piehole, don't listen to a word he says. Bob Daisley has been criminally mistreated by the Osbournes, and without him, Ozzy wouldn't be shit. That's right. Need further proof, look at the lyrics to Sabbath's "The Eternal Idol"...guess who wrote those?...

I'm not going to repeat too much of the discussion on the YouTube page, but just so you are all aware, Ozzy admitted in 2004 that Daisley was the main lyric writer for ALL of his 80's output. Some fans still claim that in '82, Randy Rhoads said that him and Ozzy wrote it and that Bob Daisley didn't. That's a lie, and this is where I can use my history degree (which is given when one figures out how to sift through sources and determine was is actually fact, and what is actually bullshit) to explain why it's a lie. It's actually common sense. Do you really think that in 1982, Randy is going to go to an interview, with Ozzy at his side and Sharon probably in the backroom, and freely say on Radio/TV that an outsider and persona non grata in the Osbourne camp wrote "Diary of a Madman". You bet your ass he wouldn't. You can pretty much write that one off you Ozzy fans. Don't be so gullible...

Anyway, Daisley attempted to sue again in 2002, but his case was dismissed. He hasn't said much about it, but claims that outside influence and threats against him were made if he chose to pursue the matter. He has a book coming out about it, and when it comes out, I'm probably going to purchase it. Besides his work with Ozzy, he's also worked with Sabbath, Gary Moore, Rainbow, and some other amazing musicians. Probably a good buy for any rock music fan.

So anti-Daisley fans...I'll be looking forward to your arguments over at YouTube.

Oh, and TheJayDeeOldBoy...good luck trying to create the "Soon to be best channel for Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne and other related videos". I can't even say that with a straight face.

Hey everyone,

I decided to come back from my self-imposed hiatus. I was sort of on one since about Xmas until that infamous song called "The Rebel" came knocking at my door, but I really made no mention of it to anyone.

I want to clear up a few more things about The Rebel.

I took it down because it wasn't worth all the trouble. Both from people who didn't want me to post it, and the 2390483248 people asking me to send it to them. Am I scared of being sued? Not really. Technically, I could be sued by anyone for ANY of the material I have posted. I don't legally own any of it. No one, other than the band and their management, has legal rights over bootlegged/ROIO material. The only exception, at least in America, is if you go to a concert and tape the show yourself and freely trade it (not for profit). However, this activity is also not permitted by most venues or bands, but it happens anyway. Everything about non-official material is illegal in some way or another, either by how it was created or how it's used/exploited. Nevermind that 80% of the videos on YouTube are in violation of copyright. Let's not forget that. The reason it's not challenged more than it is, is because it's NOT THAT BIG A DEAL. Everyone still makes their money and drives their sports cars...it's ok.

Thin Lizzy's management hasn't come to me complaining about me posting Lynott's demo material, although they very well could. I don't own it, but it IS out there...so people might as well be hearing it for free (at least until someone gets around to remastering it and releasing it officially--HINT HINT), rather than being forced to pay for it on Ebay or something.

Sabbath has also said that they don't care about their live shows being taped. They know it happens, and they don't really care, as long as they aren't being sold for profit.

So what's the big deal about "The Rebel"? It's never been officially released and the band hates it so much that they don't plan on releasing it. It's out there now--it was out there before I ever found it--so what should be done? Personally, I'm starting to think I should of left it up, but I was sick of being bitched at by two people who claim they don't care what happens to me, yet take it upon themselves to badmouth me and tattle to anyone close to Black Sabbath. To be honest, Black Sabbath and their management probably don't give a shit. If they had, I probably would of heard something from them. I never did and probably never will.

I could post some of the hilarious PMs I received from the afforementioned gentlemen about my actions. They called me "combative" and "hostile", saying I had a "fuck you--I'll do what I want attitude" when the emails and PMs sent are as nice and polite as I could possibly make them. (This was the opposite of RL incident, where I actually was very combative, with good reason). I don't want to because it's a lot of correspondence I'd have to dig out and personally it's not that big a deal. If they think I was combative, then they don't have a fucking clue about what "combative" is. 'Combative' would of been me leaving the track up and telling them both to fuck off. Obviously, I didn't do that. I didn't even piss and moan about it. In hindsight, it was dumb to post the track, not because of it's legality (like I said, nothing I post is legal), but because of all the attention it was going to get...good and bad. Personally, I'd rather not have to answer 100 emails about 'The Rebel' daily. It's just a song.

The biggest irony of it all is that while the material that I post is illegally created and illegal to sell and sometimes own, is that it actually is allowed on YouTube. Well, again, it probably technically isn't, but I've seen people bitching lately about YouTube cracking down on people who continue to upload footage that has copyright issues. I've never been warned by YouTube, and I've had a total of TWO videos out of 307 be removed...and this was just recently. One was the song "Daddy Rolling Stone" with Lynott, Johnny Thunders, and Steve Mariott. The other was a fan-made mix that used a couple versions of Yellow Pearl. Nothing else has even been threatened with removal. My account is in good standing, and unless something suddenly changes, it should remain in good standing.

Well that's my thoughts. I posted my first video (Don't Let Him Slip Away - Thin Lizzy) a year from this coming Saturday (Feb 14), so look for some new stuff this week, to be capped off by a very special post Thursday night (Feb 12) to mark the event. I don't want to wait until the weekend, because most of my activity occurs doing the week, and V-Day is this Saturday, and I won't be around anyway. The post will be Lizzy/Lynott related, just as my first one was. And I'll even give you a lyric to see if anyone can figure it out ahead of time:

A little late but...

Yeah...I know I promised a new post over the weekend, but I got busy with non-internet related activities and totally forgot. Sorry.

Here's another show for you all. I promised some Ray Gillen and here it is. This is from a vinyl bootleg known as "The Sphinx". It was the second bootleg I ever heard and I didn't hardly know what it was at the time. I think I was about 18 or so, and I'm not even sure if I had every official Sabbath album at the time. I was looking around on the internet for downloads and came across this, knowing it was Sabbath, but not really knowing anything about Ray Gillen.

So I sort of set it aside. Only about three years later I figured out exactly what I had.

'The Sphinx' is one of the last shows Ray Gillen played with Black Sabbath, and is a complete audience recording of their gig at the Hammersmith Odeon on 2 June 1986. There is also a more common, incomplete FM recording for the gig, but this isn't what I have. I got my copy of the Sphinx in .mp3 form, and have not seen a lossless copy of this show as of late. I would be interested in one if a person has it, or better yet, post it on DIME or TradersDen so everyone can enjoy it.

Hi everyone,

Earlier tonight, I posted my first Sabbath torrent over at DIME, which was coincidently was the infamous "Riot Show" that took place in Milwaukee, WI on October 9, 1980. It's a unique show, and I say that because it's the only audio of a riot (that I'm aware of) that exists on tape. I've posted the riot portion on YouTube previously and it was one of my top 9 most listened to audios.

Occasionally on this clip, I get some jackasses that comment about how Dio didn't do enough to stop the eventual riot, or comments such as: "Sabbath should of played anyway" or "The bottle should of been thrown at Dio" or "Dio is a bitch because he ran away and didn't beat the guy up" or other ridiculous bullshit. Here's my views on the entire subject.

First off, Geezer, by his own admission, was knocked out when the bottle hit him, and didn't even completely come to until he was at the hospital. Not so much from the bottle hitting him in the head (which probably was bad enough) but from hitting the stage floor. So you tools that keep saying "Sabbath should of kept playing"...that was completely out of the question. They couldn't continue, so get that thought out of your tiny brains. Okay?

Secondly, who's retarded enough to pay money for a ticket to see a band, and to get so hammered/stoned/fucked up that you can't even watch the show. That's bad enough, but to throw a bottle at one of the band members? If you hate them that bad, then save your money and keep your ass at home. Don't drag your drugged-out ass to the show, probably fucked up enough to get a DUI on the way there (or back) and be the instigator of a riot. There's no way anyone could pull anymore of a bitch move then that. Period. If you hate Dio and think the bottle should be thrown at him instead, all I'm going to say is that no respectable human should behave like that. If you don't like him, then don't listen to his music and don't go to the show. If you're at a festival and you don't like a band, then use the bathroom, get something to eat, or buy some merchandise. Don't be a dipshit and get yourself arrested. Honestly, throwing shit at a band will only make them think they are better than they really are, and make them more determined to make more shitty music. If everyone just walked away from the stage, think about how shitty that band would feel. They might actually think they suck and quit. Maybe.

So what's Dio to do about it? Should he have thrown himself into the crowd to protect the honor of Geezer and the band and punched that guy in the face? You probably think "YEAH!!! That would be so metal!!! LOL!!!!"

WRONG ANSWER YOU DOLT!

This idea was attempted 11 years later in St. Louis by Axl Rose. Apparently not thrilled with the security, Axl Rose jumped into the audience and punched a fan who was taping the show. This led to a lawsuit by the fan, and a full-scale riot after Axl's outburst and premature end to the show. Dio is obviously a smarter and more classy man than Axl is, and while it might appear to be "cool" to you neanderthals out there, that's an EVEN WORSE way to handle the situation. Glad that has been cleared up.

Anyway, this 'brilliant' guy by the name of "ozzymanod411" has commented on the afformentioned audio. He's inspired this post in a way, but in a way I feel bad for him. This guy has the unofficial distinction of typing the most idiotic comment ever on ANY of my uploads. That's pretty hard to do. I mean, who gave birth to this person? Is it not too late that we can't stuff him back up into his mother's uterus and abort this M.F. before he kills someone due to his overwhelming stupidity? I mean come on...this has to be a joke...there's no way anyone can be this dumb and actually be serious. Yet, I'm totally baffled. Just read this shit:

Substitute Teaching, DIME Mods, other observations...

Hi Everyone,

I had planned on putting up a link to download some songs from "Mythology", which was Tony Iommi's band prior to Black Sabbath. I don't have to now because some gracious soul uploaded them to DIME. In fact, it turns out that these recordings are so 'special', that DIME has allowed them to remain on the tracker despite the fact the show is lossy-sourced. A lossless source for the show hasn't surfaced yet, and DIME smartly has realized how significant the show is to many Sabbath collectors. I had no idea it was actually as rare as it was, as I found my copy on a file-sharing site (of all places).

DIME is a great resource for boots. They overall do a great job, and their mods are generally very helpful. I've dealt with them on a couple of occasions. A few of them are a little rude though, and I remember when I was uploading my very first torrent, I had a question and I got snapped at by one of the mods. Apparently my question was stupid to him, but as a first-timer (and a person known for not asking stupid questions), I think he was just a jerk. Whatever.

Today, another person who I don't really know well (but frequents the same downloads I do) uploaded his first Lizzy torrent today. Good for him. I'm glad he took the time to learn the nuances behind DIME's uploading system. It turns out his source for the show was lossy though and it got pulled from the tracker. From what he said, I doubt he had any clue his show was even lossy. Oddly enough, another person uploaded the same show after this (a previously unknown FM source) and I was able to acquire it anyway. A few people made comments about the other version that had been pulled, and I thought it would be good to say something. Everyone makes mistakes and while it was the uploader's responsibility to make sure it wasn't lossy before he uploaded it, I doubt he even thought twice or knew better. It's one of those times where you think "yeah, technically he did something wrong, but is it really necessary to make a big deal out of it??" I would say no. This wasn't a big deal. I commented as much about it, saying that you couldn't really fault him...he's just a newbie and everyone makes mistakes. No need to stone the guy.

Of course, the moderator jumped down my throat about my comment, and was like "yes, it was his responsibility...blah blah blah...". I already know this... I'm not saying he isn't responsible...but let's face it...if everyone was perfect, this moderator WOULDN'T HAVE A JOB. There's really no reason moderators should ever get pissy unless people are repeat offenders. Other than that, they are doing what they volunteered to do. So there's no reason to complain and chastize people for making mistakes...especially first timers. I like to think of myself as a hard man, but yet I'm pretty compassionate. Especially when people take responsibility for errors they make. It shows they are humble, and it shows that they are responsible...two very valuable qualities. I can easily forgive a person when they show those qualities. There's no need to come down hard on a newbie and discourage him completely from ever contributing postitively again. I wanted to say something to the moderator, but just before I posted a comment, I deleted it. I don't know how the moderator would take it, and I don't need to deal with one that's on a power-trip. Sometimes that happens to moderators and they go off the handle. I can post it here though, and I think it's a good thing to keep in mind when dealing with people...online or in real life.

Moving on, lately I've been working quite a bit, so I haven't had a chance to update here. I work as a substitute teacher, and I'm trying to get a permanent position teaching Social Studies. Right now I sub for several districts, but spend most of my time in one specific school. It's tough at times because the kids think I look young and they think I'm funny (one of them said I should be a standup comedian). If I'm not strict, they can be handful. I enjoy it a lot, and it's nice to get a paycheck every two weeks. The pay actually isn't that bad for working 4ish days a week.

My next post will have a download of some kind in it. I have to work on getting my Lizzy and Sabbath lists updated tomorrow. I have a lot of potential traders contacting me...and my lists aren't accurate at all, especially with the reason gold rush of Lizzy and Sabbath material online. If you have some good stuff and want to trade, feel free to contact me and we can trade lists. I'm not guaranteeing that I WILL trade with you necessarily, but trading inventories is nice just to see what's available.

Another Update

Hi Everyone,

Since my previous two lengthy posts regarding my situation with RL, a gentleman from RL took the time to privately contact me and together we worked out some sort of mutual understanding regarding what had happened in the past. Hopefully both sides can build on this and learn from this experience so that it doesn't happen to anyone else in the future.

It's hard sometimes when you're involved in an incident like mine NOT to throw insults back and forth. It happened on both sides. That's what happens when reputations are threatened and accusations fly when all the information isn't quite out there. Sometimes the best thing to do is just sit down and sort everything out first. I know that's hard to do over the internet and often it is the factor of 'time' that sorts these issues out. Am I sorry about what happened? Of course. Am I sorry about how I acted? Not really. I don't know what else I could of done. Maybe I could of just ignored it all, but I'm the type of person that will stand up for myself and not allow myself to get mowed down by others. Again, it's just how I was brought up and how I come 'wired'. It bothers me more to ignore something than to say something, even if it's a sentence. It seems like all the great historical figures were the ones that chose NOT to ignore injustices that they saw or were put against them. I'm not trying to compare this event to anything like that or myself to MLK Jr., George Washington, or anyone else...but I believe saying something and making your opinion known is the only way you might be able to generate change. Ignoring a problem won't do anything.

Anyway, that something for you guys to chew on next time you get into any 'discussions' with someone else.

Picking up where I left off...

August 8, 2008 started like any other day. I get on in the afternoon to check my YouTube page and notice that I have about 30 more comments than I normally do in any given day...all on the same two videos, the Catholic Charm video and the What's The Matter Baby video. I start reading the comments and it's all criticism. I got posts saying that the music didn't belong on YouTube, and because of what I had done, bootleggers were now going to get the music and make $ from it (which doesn't make sense) and how I didn't give proper credit or how the music was copyrighted and wasn't allowed on there. None of the posts made sense and after arguing my point a bit, I decided to just delete all the posts. That shit doesn't contribute to anyone's enjoyment of the music and it really isn't needed. (I really should do that for every idiotic comment I get on every video, but some are so unintentionally hilarious I can't resist commenting back...)

After this, I logged on to RL to see if anything new was going on and I was greeted by a comment from Phil Osborne which said something the effect of "not as smart-mouthed on here as you are on your YouTube page, are you Ryan?". I quickly learned that it was him and a few others that were behind this hate-campaign on the music I posted. I had seen this before. Other people got blasted by him and some of the other RLers and either stopped coming back or were booted from the site. I didn't do anything wrong and I felt I didn't answer to him or anyone else. Who made him the boss of what I can post?? In fact, it was one of their own that double-crossed me to begin with, and now they have the nerve to come at me and criticize MY actions. I wasn't about to stand for it. I was very quick to defend myself and I did quite well, considering everyone else piled on Phil O.'s side and it was one against about 12. Another gentleman I had never even spoken to demanded I apologize for my actions. I told him that "I would apologize when hell freezes over and monkeys fly out of my ass." Eventually things calmed down, but I was still barred from the site in early December 2008. Whatever.

They have instigated everything at every step. They screwed me first, then sought me out and left me hate mail and spam, then on their own site called me out and threw me under the bus...and they expect me to be nice to them? To give them the time of day and respect?? They must be out of their fuckin' minds. Then just a couple days ago it happens again over at DIME. A few of them show up, acts like 2 year olds, and get all pissy when I tell them to 'get bent'. Quite a typical exchange.

Oh, and back to Jim Cameron...while all this was going on, Jim Cameron didn't say a word...not for at least 3 or 4 weeks. Eventually the truth came out about his involvement and all of a sudden, he wanted to make amends for his actions. In truth, he knew he was in BIG TROUBLE with the rest of RL and wanted to attempt to fix this. He ended up sending me two additional tracks from the T&L sessions (but STILL not the whole disc, like I had innitially requested). I took them and in exchange, I took down Catholic Charm and What's the Matter Baby from YouTube. Also, there was so supposed to be no further discussion of the incident, no badmouthing from either side, and it was all supposed to end. Fair enough.

Obviously, it didn't happen that way though. Sometime in September (edit: October 12, sometimes my mental clock fails me) I received another message at YouTube from Jim, and he basically blasted me again, whining about how he had been "kicked out" of the "inner circle" because of MY actions. He went on and on about how now no one would be willing to trade with him. To that, I basically said I didn't give a rat's ass, and that it was HIS ACTIONS toward me that caused this whole incident, and that now he can feel like the other 99% of fans that aren't able to get the material that does exist. That was the end of my communication with Jim. Meanwhile, veiled criticism of me and some other people continued over at RL and for awhile I just ignored it. I was still willing to not stir the pot even though I graciously accepted less than what I was promised and appeased those over at RL. I had broken my back to please these people...and that still hasn't been enough. I got tired of it, and back up Catholic Charm and What's the Matter Baby went. I figured if they are going to badmouth me, I might as well give them a half-assed reason instead of no reason at all. Besides, they had been heard and even put in torrents prior to me taking them down the first time. They are out there now, so lets keep them out there.

There's one more part to this story that I have to leave out for now. Perhaps someday I can tell it, but the reason I can't is that it's still going on at this very moment. It's regarding the amount of Lizzy that has appeared on DIME in the last month. It's not an accident. I know EXACTLY why it's happening. That's for another day (or maybe year) though.

This is pretty much it. There's a few other minor things but this is really what one needs to know. I hope this makes things more clear for you all on why I have criticized RL. Perhaos if they would leave me alone...I wouldn't have to leave their email address in my channel page... (edit: I have since removed it)

First off, as I promised a few of you, here are some compilations I put together with various Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynott tracks. A few of the tracks can be found on "The Man and His Music" Set, but I tried to put some of the other more obscure tracks in these. I left out the T&L Demos and Grand Slam Demos. The T&L Demos are posted over at DIME and the Grand Slam demos I'm leaving for another day. I didn't have time to make any artwork, as my photoshop has been screwing up lately and I've been kept busy over at DIME. If you've been over on DIME you'll understand.

I mentioned last night that I would eventually tell my story about my experiences with Rock Legend (http://www.thin-lizzy.info/) and how I became involved in this 'battle' to try and get more stuff made available to all the Lizzy fans. There's been nothing more inspiring to me than hearing from many of the older Lizzy fans who saw Lizzy in their prime and to listen to their stories. Believe me, there's been times where I'd like to say "fuck it, this isn't worth the trouble and aggrevation I get from Rock Legend and some of the people that run it, but in the end, I know I'm doing the right thing. The messages I get from people thanking me affirms that over and over again.

I've had my YouTube account for a couple years now, but I started posting in February 2008. Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath have been my top two favorite bands for at least 3 years now. I don't think any other band will come along and knock them from the top two. I noticed there was a general lack of material on YouTube for both bands, and I thought I would try and make a "music video". My very first video was "Don't Let Him Slip Away", one of the outtakes from the T&L Sessions. I had always loved the song and figured that not many people knew about it. Over the next couple months I posted lots of videos, sometimes as many as 8-10 a day. They are quite easy to make and I knew people would listen to the content, as many probably had never heard the material before.

In April, I was approached by a gentleman named Jim Cameron. He is the webmaster at RockLegend and also a huge Thin Lizzy fan. I had known of the website and had always admired the design and layout of the site. I still do. It's great for information. He said he liked the work I had done; keep the Lizzy flag flying...etc. and asked if he could have copies of all the material I had collected. In return, he would offer me a few selections from his collection. We decided we would swap over Rapidshare and that I would send him HALF of my collection, and he would send me half of what I asked for, and then the process would repeat for the other half of the deal. I had no problem with this and I agreed on a couple of selections and I set about sending him copies of the material I had collected. While it wasn't very difficult for me to do that, it was very time consuming. I had about half of it completed, and when it came for Jim to begin completing his end of the deal, he "disappeared".

Of course, I politely emailed him and wanted to know what was going on, and I the first time, I got an excuse and gave me a date that he would send me the material by. That date came and went. I waited another month. Still nothing. In the meantime, I had met another person who had given me a couple of the selections I had asked for from Jim, but still, I wanted Jim to at least be held accountable. I was not pleased in how he handled the situation and I felt in a way he had wasted my time. (I still have all this correspondence in my email, and I don't plan on deleting it. I can produce it on demand.)

Finally in early July 2008, I emailed Jim, and it was not a pleasant email. By this time I expected to get nothing, so basically I told him to forget about it and never ask me for any favor again. I sort of guilt tripped him a bit, but I was raised where if you say you're going to do something, you do it, and you do it right. To my surprise, Jim emailed me 'Catholic Charm', 'What's the Matter Baby', and the demo of 'Fats'. He said that a family situation had come up and that once it was resolved he had "forgotten" about our agreement. This very well could of happened, but damn...be accountable. He could of at least emailed and told me that there was going to be delays, but he just "forgot". Forgot for almost 3 months...right. He didn't put any stipulations on the tracks (which were all in mp3 format), but said they might be good to hold onto as trade bait. He didn't bother to send me any of the remaining things I had asked for, so essentially, I gave him half my collection for these three tracks. I was frustrated, but I was willing to let it go.

So I held onto the tracks for awhile. By this time, I was approaching my 225th video or so. I got my account on RockLegend and actually met Phil Osborne (FJ/Father Jack) for the first time. I read some of the posts and was a little concerned about what I was reading. RockLegend has a really slanted view on Thin Lizzy, but if you go on there here's what you should do.

1) Say how much you love the tribute bands (but NOT the Sykes/Gorham version of Lizzy).
2) Give as much praise as you can to Brian Robertson.
3) NEVER EVER mention the word 'bootleg'...not even with the best intentions.
4) Throw jabs at Gary Moore whenever you can.
5) ...and be sure to pile on when someone does something the forum doesn't like.

Anyway, it's not a really good fan forum because Phil O. and a couple others pretty much run the show and dictate what goes on there. If you show up--no matter how polite you are--if you say something they deem "wrong", such as praising Gary Moore, they'll send the dogs after you. I've seen it many, many times. Someone there asked about Sue Peters and about got their head bitten off. Why would anyone want a part of a forum where you can even express your views on a band freely? It was quite slanted, so I mainly kept silent and didn't stir the pot. I towed the line for awhile even though I didn't agree with how the forums were ran.

In mid July, a promo disc for the now-officially released Derby '75 gig went up for bid on Ebay. This was one of the shows I originally had asked Jim for, and he had agreed to send to me. Of course, he never did, and when this came up, I wanted to purchase it. I was also worried in the back of my mind that the disc might not come out at all (sort of like the Decca-remasters) so I ended up bidding on the disc. I was very close to winning it, but then the bid was driven way up by another person. After a bidding war, I was still ahead at £25 ($60) but lost it in the waning seconds. I was disappointed, but that's life. Here's the kicker though...

It was Jim Cameron who bought the disc.

I learned of this on the RL forums and this just flat out pissed me off. This guy has already not done what he had promised me he would do, and now he intentionally drove up the price for the promo disc of the EXACT SAME show that he promised he would send me, and bought it out from under me, because he, in his own words, was protecting the show so no one would take it upon themselves to bootleg it prior to release. Sort of a bitch move IMHO. He later claimed he didn't know I was the other bidder, but I doubt that. In any event, Jim, Phil O. and a few others had this show for YEARS prior to it's official release and didn't share it with anyone outside their inner circle. The same still goes for many other shows (although this has changed if one goes on DIME lately). The more I thought about, the more it pissed me off. Jim, Phil O., and a few chosen others have tons of material which will never be heard, and that they claim they are saving in case other rare material comes to light. Fair enough, but it's been 23 years and it's not happening, and in the same breath, they'll claim some of these same shows aren't rare at all, so then ask yourself this...why aren't they giving people a chance to hear them?

It was after this, I decided to post the tracks Jim Cameron gave me. To hell with trading for myself. Do something for the fans...do something for all the other old fans that might not get to hear this music before they make like Lynott and leave this earth. You can't take the music with you...so give others the chance to hear it. That's what I did. I posted those tracks. I was never told I couldn't, and after being screwed over twice, I felt it was poetic justice.

Then on August 8, 2008...all hell broke loose. That's for another post though.

Tomorrow I will have the two compiliations posted. I would have liked to put them up in lossless format, but I do not have lossless copies of a majority of the songs these compilations are comprised of. Mp3 will have to do I suppose, which leads me into the main topic of my post.

Tonight over at DIME I posted my fourth torrent. I posted the T&L Demos. If anyone is interested, head on over there. I'm getting used to making torrents now, and I can make them pretty fast. Obviously though, you need lossless files to post over at DIME. Thankfully, in the last month or so, there has been a big push on DIME by me and a few other people to post some "new" Lizzy/Lynott related material. I know why this "push" occurred, but that will be explained at a much later date.

Needless to say, my 'mortal enemies' at RL have decided to come out of the woodwork over at DIME and berate me and accuse me of diluting the quality of audio by posting on YouTube and also are pissed because I badmouth them. Apparently I'm an ungrateful jerk that doesn't respect what they have done in the past to get certain things made available to the legions of Lizzy fans. They left their nonsense over at 'Thin Lizzy - Nuremburg '83 torrent' on DIME, and my response to them is located over there as well. I'm not going to repeat it all here, but I would like to make some points very clear.

1) I am always trying to upgrade my stuff. If I have lossy files, I'm constantly looking for the lossless ones. The reason so much lossy crap exists on the internet is that some idiot converts lossless files into lossy and passes them on. Meanwhile, the original lossless files disappear from the torrents and certain people stop posting shows (because they are mad that their music is being diluted) and stop contributing. The lossless files disappear and people are left with the shitty lossy files. I've never converted lossless into lossy and passed it on. I have passed on lossy that I have found in that format, simply because I know people want to hear ANYTHING they can. The lossy stuff I have is stuff I found or was given in that format. Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade it eventually, but until then...

2) Even with the existence of lossy files, that doesn't mean people shouldn't be allowed to enjoy the music. I post on YouTube whatever I have...whether I'm posting uncompressed .wav files, or lossy .mp3 files. I found them in that manner, and if they are around and there's no better quality, why NOT post them. Lossy is better than nothing.

3) If more people posted their lossless stuff, and kept it seeding, people would be able to obtain the best quality audio at any time. Lossy would still exist, but the existance of lossy doesn't decrease the amount of quality lossless shows. It also discourages bootlegging for profit, because if shows are made available on sites like TheTradersDen and DIME, then people can get them for FREE. Hoarding and suppressing material only allows bootleggers to keep their jobs and make like bandits on Ebay.

This is why I post stuff. Not only is it historical, but it's insuring that material doesn't end up lost, or in the hands of people that will make others pay to hear it. Why anyone would be against this, I have no idea. RL can sit and make excuses about how I'm doing evil deeds and how I'm capitalizing from their hard work. Well ok...if you don't want me to capitalize...then POST THE MATERIAL YOURSELVES. They have all the same stuff I do and even more, but yet they just sit on it. They hoard and supress it, and then when a few shows leak, they sit around and wonder why they get converted to lossy format and why they continue to multiply in that format. If they put it all on DIME and kept it there, there wouldn't be as much dilution. What they are doing is actually contributing to THE PROBLEM. I figured this out a long time ago, but yet they refuse to follow my lead and would rather fight against me. Fools....

My next post will explain how exactly my "issues" with RL began. So if you guys want to hear a good story, come back tomorrow.

Regarding my youth...

Lately I've received many comments on my age from people. Most people don't believe that someone so young could have as much rare and interesting music that I do. I'm quite lucky to know where I can find this music, and have several friends and acquaintances who are older than myself to provide this music to myself and to many other people. All I do is put it on YouTube.

I'm well aware based on the stats that YouTube compiles that most of the viewers of my channel are in the age range from 45-55. That makes sense, given most of my videos are of Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy, two bands that were prominent in the 1970s. If we go back to that decade, most of my viewers would of been about my age in the 1970s. (I turned 24 on December 16.)

Occasionally I get a few comments from smartasses that try to use my youth against me. Whether I'm debating something with someone, or someone thinks they can one-up me, so they attempt to put me straight in a really condescending or patronizing tone. I don't like that. I actually hate this more than when people don't read and ask stupid questions. It might be the quickest way to piss me off. Granted I do this sometimes too, but I only do it when the person that makes the comment is an ass about it to begin with AND is 100% wrong. I'm a very situational type of person, the "right thing" varies a lot...whether I mildly correct someone, or bitch someone out. Trust me, I don't have "mood swings" like some people accuse me of having.

Today I got one of those comments. It was sent as a PM regarding my 1978 Black Sabbath audio of "Dirty Women", when Ozzy says Tony is changing his "left leg". Great British humor by Ozzy, as he's referring to Tony Iommi's left-handedness and the guitar being his "leg" he stands on. It's still odd word choice though; a lot of Americans wouldn't get it right away. Not saying Americans are dumb, but it's just not how they think. It's a cultural thing. The gentleman that PMed me about it also has a history of sending me really retarded PMs, so this isn't the first time he ruffled my feathers a bit. It's also not the first time he's mentioned my age in a negative way. This is what he said to me, so you can interpret it:

...He makes it sound like I have no clue what's going on the clip. Nevermind that I posted the fucking thing. That's bad enough, but what is this "young Blacksabfan" bullshit? I don't go around calling people older than me "old soandsoblahblahface". Had this happened only once, I would of just warned him, but based on what his channel comments were, and how he's spoken to me before, this guy is just being a douchebag. "Young Blacksabfan" has a surprise for him...

Here's my reply:

I was very well aware of what was going on in that clip. I know Tony is left handed. Ozzy's word choice was just odd; British humor perhaps. There's no need for the condescending/patronizing tone regarding my youth. In fact, it's probably the thing I hate most. Maybe in a year when I'm a little older you'll get to comment on my videos again.

Good lesson for you older people. While I value your wisdom and your experiences, take it easy on those younger people. Especially when they act as "the hand that feeds". You know they are the ones that decide what old folks home you end up in.

For the Lizzy fans: The compilations will be posted sometime prior to January 4th. They will be in mp3 format. The second of the two will have 18 songs, and the first isn't quite done yet. I haven't decided if I'm making artwork or not, but I might.

Jeff Fenholt was NOT in Black Sabbath!

I was awake so I thought I'd put an entry in. After my Sunday football fix I logged into YouTube and found that someone has responded to comment I made on some Jeff Fenholt video (not one of mine) from 10 months ago. This is the video:

Read through the conversation and note "ScarlettRhiannon's" stupid reply to what I said about Mr. Fenholt not being a member of Black Sabbath. I'll also post it below, because I can:

"Quoting Fenholt verbatim: "I was working with a group called Black Sabbath for a short time - about six months..." This was a preface to a story. Seems it isn't a matter a "falsifying" his "resume," but a matter of hearing and comprehension on your part. "

First off, I'm personally not a religious person...but to each their own. If you want to be a Bible Thumper, then go for it, but just because you're a Bible Thumper doesn't mean you have to be a gullible dope that believes anything that comes out of a horses' mouth. According to her logic, because Fenholt said so, it must be true. He's an infallible born-again Christian that is always right regardless of simple historical fact or any interview made by anyone else. Glad that has been cleared up. I think I'll tell her I'm the Pope, and she has to believe it's true, because I said so.

Secondly, it is NEVER a good idea to start criticizing my hearing and my comphrension... Especially when you don't know shit about Black Sabbath to begin with (as ScarlettRhiannon surely doesn't) and you're going up against a person that has posted 150ish Sabbath related videos and knows the history of the band like the back of his hand. That's glutton for punishment. Nevermind that I also hold an actual history degree, a teaching certificate, and I'm ten credits from a Master's Degree. But what the fuck do I know?? I don't know how to research or comprehend anything I read.

Here's the truth:

Jeff Fenholt was not in Black Sabbath because Black Sabbath was disbanded in 1984. Dave Donato was the last singer for Black Sabbath, and was fired sometime in the summer of that year. Geezer left the band and began his own solo band and Bill Ward was actually homeless sometime after 1984 (by his own admission). Tony Iommi was left with Geoff Nichols and the two of them began working on a solo project. Gordon Copley and Eric Singer also joined them (both from Lita Ford's band) and began writing material. By May 1985, music was written and a singer was brought in for some recording sessions. That singer was Jeff Fenholt. I've posted some of the music he did with Iommi and his band for these sessions, but it was NOT Black Sabbath. This was for Iommi's solo project. Sabbath is no longer an entity at this point in time...and I stress this point. Fenholt obviously had some pipes but he couldn't come up with a lyric to save his life (listen to some of the Fenholt stuff I've posted if you don't believe me). Iommi canned him, and Glenn Hughes was brought in at a later date. Copley had also left the band at some point during all this and was replaced by Dave Spitz.

By early 1986, the material for the album was finished and submitted to the record company. Don Arden suggested to Tony Iommi that he should put "Black Sabbath" on the album cover, and Iommi relucantly did so. Hence the "Black Sabbath featuring Tony Iommi" title. It was only at that point that Black Sabbath was officially 'active' again, and even one could agrue it was a side project or a 'spinoff' at that time. With future Black Sabbath releases though, it has been generally accepted into Black Sabbath discography as a legitmate Black Sabbath album, despite many of the tracks being unlike anything Black Sabbath had previously done.

So Jeff Fenholt was NOT working on a Black Sabbath project. He was working on an Iommi solo project. Granted that project may have become a Sabbath project at a later date, Fenholt was not in the band AT THAT TIME. Thus he is NOT a member of Black Sabbath. I don't care what he said, what the 700 Club said, or what TBN said. What they say, or have said, or may say in the future is 100% WRONG. At best, Mr. Fenholt is confused and at worst he's a fucking liar. (I lean more toward the latter.) The guy is a hack who's 'claim to fame' is being the singer for a band that wasn't even a band at the time. What's even more sad is that he actually was in Jesus Christ Superstar, yet chooses to promote this lie rather than something he was actually a part of. What a dope.

So here's some free advice, especially for you Scarlett...

Don't believe everything you hear. Especially on TBN. It's not the first time they've lied. They've also said other whoppers of lies such as Pat Robertson leg pressing 2000 lbs (seriously, google that shit if you don't believe me). But they said it...so it must be true...a Christian TV network would never ever lie...

Hi Everyone. A couple weeks ago I decided to create a blog which I will link to YouTube. I've generally found that over the course of conversation with many people on YouTube, that those little "reply to comment" boxes do not meet my needs when dealing with some of the comments. This applies for both the really well intentioned, important questions I get, as well as those questions and comments from people who are simply dolts and don't bother to read the descriptions...or worse yet...attempt to argue with me about things they are either 100% wrong about, or ideas that are 100% opinion that I'll never change my mind about.

I also get hit up often for music. I don't mind meeting requests occasionally for people I regularly talk to, or people who are really polite, but I'll just say it plain: I HATE when people message me and basically demand that I email them stuff. Usually I'll just delete those, but occasionally when the mood strikes me, I'll act like a complete jerk and tell them to get bent. Yes, I know I can be a jerk...but I also consider myself to be an extremely fair person; one that will treat you the same way you treat me. That's how I've always been, and this attitude has served me well in life. It has brought me respect from many of my peers (but also created some enemies as a result). Hopefully with this blog, I can post links to some of the music I have, and people can come here to download it. This eliminates me having to email the same thing to 37 different people. If you do have a request, just remember to be polite. It will make it more likely that I'll meet your request and you'll get the same treatment in return...I promise.

Another reason I made this blog is to post news stuff related to Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy that I cannot post on YouTube. YouTube doesn't really give you space to post a lot of extraneous information, and something I write on one particular video description, such as a new release, will get missed by a majority of people unless they watch that particular video. If I have something important to say, I can say it here, and that way everyone who comes here will see it.

Lastly, I want people to be able to get to know me better personally. No, I'm not going to tell you every bit about my life, but I don't really want to remain an enigma that posts random videos either. I will use this space to explain how I came to have a lot of this material, as well as some of my on-going and never ending "battles" with the Thin Lizzy fan site, RockLegend. I think most of you realize that I greatly dislike those people and I think that what they are doing (or not doing) is shameful. I don't think a lot of people quite have the full story why that is though, and hopefully I can make it very clear once and for all how exactly my run-ins with them began and why they continue to persist. I'm very glad that I've never had any run-ins with any of the big Sabbath collectors, who are generally a nicer group of guys than the ones assocated with Lizzy.

Hopefully after the New Year I'll be able to start making regular posts. I also promised some compilations of Phil Lynott/Thin Lizzy rare tracks. They are almost finished and will eventually be posted here. Check back for those around January 4.
